Binance’s CZ predicts $28 trillion Bitcoin flip - Could Bitcoin surpass gold?

Bitcoin’s wild ride amid market uncertainty

Bitcoin has seen major volatility in recent weeks, following a sharp downturn in gold prices and growing warnings of a looming financial crisis. The cryptocurrency briefly pulled back from its record high of around $126,000, with some analysts forecasting an “inevitable” 2026 market shock tied to U.S. monetary policy changes.

Adding fuel to the debate, the Federal Reserve recently hinted at a potential $6.6 trillion “flip” - a signal many traders see as a shift in financial liquidity that could reshape risk markets.

CZ’s Bold Bitcoin Prediction

Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, who continues to hold a large stake in the exchange after stepping down amid regulatory settlements, has made one of his most confident predictions yet.

“Bitcoin will flip gold,” CZ posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I don’t know exactly when. Might take some time, but it will happen.”

His statement comes as gold’s market capitalization soared to $28.7 trillion this year - up more than 50% since 2024 - while Bitcoin’s sits around $2.1 trillion. CZ’s forecast suggests Bitcoin could one day match or exceed gold’s valuation, implying a more than 10x increase from current levels.

Market Reactions and Price Correlation

According to Standard Chartered’s head of digital asset research, Geoffrey Kendrick, the recent gold selloff coincided with a noticeable intra-day bounce in Bitcoin - evidence that investors may already be rotating from traditional safe havens into digital assets.

“This was presumably a ‘sell gold, buy Bitcoin’ flow,” Kendrick explained, suggesting the correlation shift could mark the beginning of a new phase for crypto markets.

While short-term traders fear Bitcoin could temporarily drop below $100,000, bullish analysts view any pullback as a buying opportunity in anticipation of long-term growth.

The Bigger Picture - Crypto vs. Fiat

The debate between digital and traditional assets continues to intensify. Gold’s long-standing dominance as a store of value is being challenged by a new generation of investors who view Bitcoin as the more adaptable, transparent, and borderless form of “digital gold.”

With monetary policy uncertainty, U.S.-China trade tensions, and mounting fears of dollar debasement, Bitcoin’s role as a hedge asset may only strengthen in the years ahead.

Outlook - “It Will Happen”

CZ’s words echo a growing sentiment in the crypto community: that Bitcoin’s eventual dominance over gold is not a matter of if, but when.

As global markets brace for the next financial “shock,” the battle between the old and new standards of value is entering its most critical phase yet.
